William and Kate will visit campus

In what will be their first visit to the University of Manchester, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will make an official visit to the university on Friday the 14th of October.

William and Kate will be given a tour of the state-of-the art facilities at the National Graphene Institute before moving on to the site of the £350 million Manchester Engineering Campus Development (MECD) just north of the Main Campus.

This visit will follow a number of official tours and events around Manchester including visiting the National Football Museum, and Francis House Children’s Hospice in East Didsbury.

At the MECD they will place the seal on a time capsule intended to be displayed within the Engineering Building, along with a commemorative plaque.

University of Manchester Vice-Chancellor Nancy Rothwell said: “Over the past 100 years the university has celebrated many achievements in science and engineering, from Rutherford splitting the atom to the isolation of graphene almost a century later.

“MECD will create a world-leading teaching, learning and research campus to develop the engineers, scientists and innovators of tomorrow and it is an honour to be joined by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as we mark the commencement of the next milestone in the university’s campus masterplan.”
