{"id":32738,"date":"2017-10-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-10-04T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mancunion.manchestermediagroup.co.uk\/blog\/2017\/10\/05\/language-badges-introduced-to-welcome-international-students\/"},"modified":"2018-07-18T05:40:31","modified_gmt":"2018-07-18T04:40:31","slug":"language-badges-introduced-to-welcome-international-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mancunion.com\/2017\/10\/05\/language-badges-introduced-to-welcome-international-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Language badges introduced to welcome international students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Manchester Students\u2019 Union\u2019s Diversity Officer, Riddi Viswanathan has introduced the &#8220;I Speak Other Languages Too&#8221; badge in an attempt to &#8220;make the University more welcoming for international students, especially for students facing language barriers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The badge is to be worn by staff and students ASK ME ambassadors who speak a language other than English. They have been available since the start of the 2017 autumn term.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As well as addressing language barriers, these badges also to help students and staff break the ice,&#8221; Ms Viswanathan said. Feedback has been positive so far; one University staff member said: &#8220;I\u2019m sure lots of international students will really appreciate this!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She added: &#8220;I am super glad that students from different countries are feeling warm and welcomed already.
