The application requirements for LeadMCR have changed for 2025 with new rules introduced to increase the quality of applications.

Candidates are now required to submit a picture as part of their application, marking a change from previous years where this was not mandatory.

Last year there were a record 144 applicants who ran for the 8 executive roles. This year has seen a decreased number of candidates with 42 vying for an executive position.

Additionally, with the shift of the Postgraduate Research Officer role from full-time to part-time, only students who are postgraduate research students are allowed to vote for this role.

Candidates are required to answer 3 questions as part of their ideas statement. Question 2, which covers the three changes applicants would hope to introduce, has seen its word limit increased to 300 words.

It is unclear why these changes have been introduced – however, in LeadMCR 2024, some candidates ran without pictures.

Applications for LeadMCR closed on February 3, after having been open since November 25.

Candidates will be revealed on February 19, and campaigning will begin immediately thereafter at 10 am.

Candidates are then allowed to campaign until February 27, when the results of the election will be announced in the Manchester Museum.

*Numbers are correct as of 18:52 pm on February 20.
