A token
gesture.
Nothing is spoken
and I wipe her
cheek – tears
from a flower.
I hold her –
my arm
on her shoulder.
Like a calm
still defines a place
by drama,
her face
is broken
by the fact
that this token
will fester
in what won’t be spoken.
