The annual LeadMCR election cycle has started with applications opening for all 8 Students’ Union Executive Officer roles.

Executives are voted in by students from across the University. Voting will open online on February 24 2025 and close on February 27.

Officers can stand for two terms, so incumbents on their first term can run again.

Roles will include seven full-time executives and one part-time ‘Postgraduate Executive’.

The full-time officer roles are as follows:

  • Union Affairs
  • Activities & Culture
  • Wellbeing & Liberation
  • City & Community
  • Faculty of Biology, Medicine, & Health
  • Faculty of Humanities
  • Faculty of Science & Engineering

This comes after a decision from the current sitting Postgraduate Executive, Adil Ashraf, to transfer the role to one on a part-time basis and voted on by postgraduates only.

Anyone can apply for the 4 Activities officers but you must be a student of the associated faculty to stand for a Faculty Officer role. International students on student visas are welcome to stand.

Each full-time role requires 35 hours a week and is paid a yearly salary of £26,640.

Executive officers are “immersed in an environment that empowers students” and are expected to represent students “advocating for their best interests and making positive change”.

Students who enter the role can take a year out of their degree to fulfil their obligations. Positions start in June 2025 and the role continues till July 2026.

Candidates must provide an “ideas statement” by February 14th.

This outlines the proposed policies or improvements they plan to enact once in the role. Additional information includes “skills & experiences you’d bring to the role”.

Nominees are also asked to attend “Mandatory Candidates Briefing” as well as further training sessions at the beginning of February.

Candidates are revealed on February 19 2025, at which point students start to campaign. It is explicitly stated in the Election Rules that campaigns cannot start “until 10 am” on this date.

Applications close on February 3 2025 at 5 pm with the final election night held on February 27th.
